Have an Adventure in Oregon Today
Oregon, or the Beaver State, rests on the Northwestern part of the country. Mainly known for its frontiers and clean air, it also home to the Greenest City, Portland. Anyone who loves good outdoor fun should definitely check out Oregon. It truly is one of America’s last Frontiers.
Portland is also the most populous city in the state of Oregon. The city straddles the Willamette River near its confluence with the Columbia River, which is a main factor in giving Portland its lush surroundings. The river also wonderfully accentuates the cityscape especially if seen from the Hawthorne Bridge.
Portland isn’t known as the greenest city for nothing. There are many gardens that visitors can choose from in order to spend a lovely day.
Donated by Northwest Natural, The Portland Classical Chinese Garden, also known as the Garden of Awakening Orchids, is a spectacular patch of land. The garden rests in the middle of downtown Portland, and captures the sensibility of the Chinese in botanical arrangements. Most people often say that, while inside it, you won’t even notice that you’re actually in the middle of a bustling city.
The perfect place to see rhododendrons (try saying that five times faster) is, naturally, in the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. These unique flowers come alive during the summer months, displaying vibrant colors that create many photo opportunities. The park is also a great place to take kids to, seeing they can play in the grass, enjoy a refreshing picnic and play with the ducks near the pond.
I wasn’t kidding when I said that Portland has many gardens. The last among the notable ones is the International Rose Test Garden. Admission is free, which gives you another reason to visit this “must-see” place. See all kinds of roses, from red to white to pink to purple, just don’t pick any of them because I think it’s illegal. On a clear and sunny day you can even see Mt. Hood in the background. You can also shop for different items that are produced by, you guessed it, roses. There are stationeries, candles, Chirstmas ornaments, bath lotions, shower gels, and many more, perfect for souvenirs or gifts for friends and loved ones back home. After all, nothing says “I love you” more than wanting someone to smell like a rose, right?
If a little more space is your taste then you should go to the city of Salem. There you can visit the Table Rock Wilderness. See over 6,000 acres of rugged terrain, towering cliffs, magnificent vistas, and diverse wildlife. The moment you see just how beautiful the place is, you’ll surely pinch yourself.
Another great city you should visit is Eugene. It has its own share of museums, parks, gardens, and attractions that should keep you coming back for more. But the unique thing about it is because of the Terwilliger Hot Springs. Water emanates from a natural rock formation to fill these six hot springs pools, with temperatures of about 105 degrees.
